Vida organic is an established wellness spa in Seal Beach, California. For years they have helped their clients relax, refresh with their wide variety of wellness therapies, and organic vegan products.
Founder and co-owner Julia Sackis is an herbalist and specializes in clinical Ayurvedic medicine. With this expertise, she started blending high quality herbs into organic teas that help treat and heal specific conditions of our everyday lives.
Eventually, the spa wanted to conveniently package the tea blends and make them available to others outside of a spa visit. Previously the organic herbs were blended into teas for a specific benefit and flavor, on an as needed basis.
As interest from upscale boutique hotel chains began to mount, it was necessary to package the teas in a consistent format. The packaging needed to be versatile enough to be displayed in-room, on the hotel spa shelves, and for the hotel restaurant.
The budget played a significant role in the packaging development. An economical solution was an absolute requirement considering the small quantities for the rollout. We understand this challenge and we are experience in finding the most practical solutions for our clients in this situation. The combination of a “start-up budget” with initially producing low quantities, gives us the motivation for some creative solutions. Limited quantities of the packaging materials was possible with a combination of digital and offset technologies from local printers.
There was a considerable amount of exploration of various packaging formats. Convenience, maintaining freshness, and cost were major concerns. The development of these teas are based on the principles of Ayurvedic medicine. So apothecary jars were a natural choice to contain the loose leaf herbs. Plus, the clear glass jars really showcased the natural colors of the hand blended herbs.
The jars are small, so the label is small. Yet there was a fair amount of information needed to educate the consumer of the benefits of each blend of tea. Shelf presence was also an important factor. The label on the glass jar is small with the minimum amount of information. Then a sturdy paper sleeve is wrapped around the jar to not only increase the branding and shelf presence, but it allows space for additional information that is printed on the inside of the sleeve.
We developed a series of hand-drawn and digitally painted leaves that are used as part of the identity of each product. These leaves are also used as needed as a secondary branding elements on various printed and digital applications.
